The library of CUG

　　The library of China University of Geosciences was founded on the basis of the library of Beijing College of Geology, which was founded in 1952 and moved to Wuhan in 1975. Now it has 8,000 m² of floor space. The library of China University of Geosciences is affirmed as“Excellent Library” by Hubei Province College Library Committee after being evaluated twice, as“Hubei Province Research Lever Literature Collection Unit” by Hubei Province Books and Information Coordination Committee for its rich collection, and as the “Index Center of Geological Mineral Ministry in Central South China” by the former Corporation of Science & Technology of Ministry of Geological and Mineral Resources.

In recent years, with the increasing fund support from the university, the Library assures 3 copies for each new student per year to reach the standard set by the national Ministry of Education. The collection of books is mainly on science and technology and features in geosciences, which can thus serve teaching, science researching and production from all aspects and at all levels. Besides books and periodicals printed in traditional paper, the museum also holds a collection of the modern optical disc database and online database.There are the collection of literatures amounting to more than 270,000 items and 820,000 copies (including 670,000 copies of books and periodicals in Chinese and 150,000 copies in foreign languages), the collection of current issues 1,500 kinds, (including 240 kinds in foreign languages, of which 41 kinds are in original edition and 1,100 kinds in Chinese). All the books and periodicals are open stacks to teachers and students. In additino,in the library, there are over 500 audio-visual materials and database available to readers, such as CNKI, Weipu Database, Wanfang Database, Xeroxes of Newspapers and Periodicals about People’s Congress, Superstar E-books, GeoRef, EI, CSA, PQDD, UMI, ELSEVIER and SpringerLink,etc. All the work related with the library reporting, periodical cataloging, circulating and searching is performed on computers.
