　　Labor Union Committee of CUG

　　Brief Introduction:

　　The predecessor of CUG is Beijing College of Geology that was founded in 1952. During the fourteen years from its foundation to the “ Cultural Revolution” , under the direct leadership of the institute Party Committee, Labor Union Committee held eight labor union congresses and by centering on the college played the role of a bridge and ligament and thus contributed much to the development of the college.
　　In 1966, the so-called “ Cultural Revolution” broke out. Labor Union Committee was damaged. In 1970, Beijing College of Geology began to move to Jiangling County, Hubei Province. After that, it was renamed as Hubei College of Geology and began to recruit students from workers, peasants and soldiers.
　　In 1975, the college moved from Jiangling to Wuhan, merged with the former Wuhan Geology School, and was renamed as Wuhan College of Geology. By then, the college had entered the recovery stage of all-around construction, but work in Labor Union Committee was still in stagnancy.
　　The Ninth Labor Union Congress of Wuhan College of Geology was held in 1981. A democratic election produced the 35-member Ninth Labor Union Committee, in which Mr. Li Gengyao was elected as Chairman, 6 people including Mr. Su Lianghe as deputy chairman. The election also gave birth to the Standing Committee that was composed of 9 members. Up to now, work in Labor Union Committee began to recover. In May 1985, Wuhan College of Geology successfully held the Tenth Labor Union Congress and produced the Tenth Labor Union Committee.
　　On November 7, 1987, the minister of Geological Mineral Department solemnly announced, “ China University of Geosciences (CUG) has been formally established!”
　　In December 1988, the Second Faculty and Staff Congress, that is the Eleventh Labor Union Congress of CUG (Wuhan), was held and thus produced the 27-member Eleventh Labor Union Committee with Zhu Li elected as the full-time chairman, Qin Yilin and Zhang Yibao as the full-time deputy chairmans. The Congress also produced the 15-member Standing Committee through an election. In February 1992, the Third Faculties and Staff Congress, that is, the Twelfth Labor Union Congress of CUG (Wuhan) was held and produced the Twelfth Labor Union Committee through democratic election.
　　And the January of 1996 witnessed the Fourth Faculties and Staff Congress, that is, the Thirteenth Labor Union Congress of CUG (Wuhan) and the production of the Thirteenth Labor Union Committee, and the June of 2001 did the Fifth Faculties and Staff Congress, that is, the Fourteenth Labor Union Congress of CUG (Wuhan) and the production of the Fourteenth Labor Union Committee.
　　Under the leadership of the superior Labor Union of Education and the university Party Committee, Labor Union Committee of CUG has been in the past years mobilizing and depending on the faculty and staff in the university to have constantly created new phases of work in Labor Union Committee. Labor Union Committee was honored as “ Advanced Collectivity of Labor Union Committee among Higher Education Institutions in Hubei” “ Excellent Unit of Teaching Representation” and “ Advanced Collectivity of Labor Union of Education in Hubei” in 1996, 1999 and 2001 respectively.
　　At present, Labor Union Committee of CUG consists of seven departments, one office and 24 branches with the total members of over 2,300, and Teaching Representation is composed of six special committees. The work in Labor Union Committee of CUG has been advancing toward standardization and systemization.
