¡¡¡¡ Brief Introduction to the Student Affairs
Department
¡¡¡¡ Student Affairs Department of CUG (Wuhan) and Student Affairs Office
share one office. Student Affairs Department is a functional department
for the Party Committee and the administrations to perform student-related
affairs. It is subdivided into all together six offices, including Studentship
and Comprehensive Management Office, Recruitment Office, Employment
Office, Education Management Office, Network Information Management
Center for University Students and Moral Education Office. It shares
the office with the university League Office and now has the staff of
34 (including those in the League Office), among which there are 3 doctor-degree
postgraduates, 13 master-degree postgraduates, 10 possessing the master¡¯s
degree, 7 with the bachelor¡¯s degree and 6 with the high-grade rank.
At an average age of 33, the staff is a youth group with solidarity,
ambition and vigor. Under the uniform leadership of the department leaders,
all offices are both independent and cooperative in performing the student¡¯s
daily life management, ideological and political education, studentship
management, student activities, moral education, Marxist and Levinist
education and guidances in recruitment and employment.
¡¡¡¡ As the main department of performing the students¡¯ ideological and
political education, the Student Affairs Department plays an important
part in implementing the educational policies made by the Party and
decisions about student affairs made by the university Party Committee
and administrations, which is mainly embodied in the following aspects:
(1) by means of kinds of education in scientific theories, belief-establishing,
current situations and policies, moral qualities, legal system and law
and discipline, cultivation of Party members, enrollment of freshmen
and ideological education toward graduates, entitle students to the
ideological and political education that regards education in patriotism,
collectivism and socialism as its primary rhythm and education in establishing
scientific world views, life philosophy and views of values as its basic
tasks; (2) by means of establishing and maintaining the student-oriented
network and the fundamental student information databank, and actualizing
the information and modernization management of student affairs, advance
the networking of students¡¯ideological and political education; (3)
by means of selecting, cultivating and examining, strengthen the construction
of the working staff engaged in the student¡¯ideological and political
education; (4) by means of the scientific research on moral education
and the discipline construction, promote the scientific implementation
of student affairs on ideology and politics, and (5) by means of mental
health education in various forms, endeavor to improve students¡¯mental
quality.
¡¡¡¡ The Student Affairs Department is also an important department for
the authorities to manage the students¡¯ routine life and study. It is
indispensable in combining education and management of students, promoting
the development of students¡¯comprehensive qualities and maintaining
stability of both the university and the society.
¡¡¡¡ The Recruitment Office and the Employment Office of CUG, which are
subordinate to the Student Affairs Department, shoulders the annual
student recruitment and the employment guidance for graduates. Established
in July 2002, the ¡° Hubei Province Talent Appraising Center CUG Measuring
and Evaluating Base¡± takes ¡° serving talents¡± as its belief, bases it
upon higher education institutions and faces toward the whole society.
It employs the modern measuring and evaluating technology, by technical
means like man-machine conversation, expert consultation and situation
simulation to objectively measure and scientifically evaluate the examined¡¯s
quality status, personality and potential in developing careers.
Functions of Student Affairs Department
14. Be responsible for students¡¯ideological and political education
and routine management, make student affairs plans and draw out regulations
related with student management.
15. Learn about students¡¯ideological status, and collect and feed back
in time student information to assist the superior authorities in making
decisions.
16. Assist the Personnel Department in selecting and managing the full-time
student affairs assistants.
17. Be responsible for the students¡¯psychological consultation and moral
discipline construction.
18. Preside over the recruitment of undergraduates.
19. Take charge of the employment directing and dispatching of all graduates.
20. Perform the awarding, assisting, granting and loaning of students.
21. Supervise and manage the implementation of the criteria on student
behavior and investigate
students¡¯misbehavior.
22. Assist the Academic Affairs Office in the studentship management
of undergraduates.
23. Be responsible for the spiritual civilization construction of students
and for the management of student dormitories.
24. Assist the Security Services Office in public security and security
in the student areas and of students.
25. Assist the Security Services Office in the student military training.
26. Accomplish other work assigned by the superiors.
