¡¡¡¡Brief Introduction:
¡¡¡¡ The library of China University of Geosciences
was founded on the basis of the library of Beijing College of Geology
that was founded in 1952 and moved to Wuhan in 1975. Now it has 8,000
square metres of floor space. The library of China University of Geosciences
is affirmed as ¡° excellent library¡± by Hubei Province College Library
Committee after evaluated twice, as ¡° Hubei Province Research Lever
Literature Collection Unit¡± by Hubei Province Books and Information
Coordination Committee for its rich collection, and as the ¡° Index Center
of Geological Mineral Ministry in Central South China ¡° by the former
Corporation of Science & Technology of Ministry of Geological Mineral
Resources.
¡¡¡¡In recent years, with the increasing fund support from the university,
theLibrary assures 3 copies to each new student per year to reach the
standard made by the Ministry of National Education. The collection
is mainly on science and technology literature and features in geosciences,
which can thus serve teaching, science researching and production from
all aspects and at all levels. The collection of literature items includes
both books and periodicals printed in traditional paper and the modern
optical disc database and online database, among which the collection
of literatures held by the library amounts to more than 270,000 items,
820,000 copies, including 670,000 copies of books and periodicals in
Chinese, 150,000 copies in foreign languages, and the collection of
current issues 1,500 kinds, including 240 kinds in foreign languages
(41 kinds in original edition), 1,100 kinds in Chinese and all the books
and periodicals are open stacks to teachers and students. There are
over 500 audio-visual materials and databases such as China Journal
Net, Weipu Database, Wanfang Database, Xeroxes of Newspapers and Periodicals
about People¡¯s Congress, Superstar E-books, GeoRef, EI, CSA, PQDD, UMI,
ELSEVIER and SpringerLink that are available to readers. And all work
related with the library reporting, periodical cataloging, circulating
and searching is all performed on computers.
