Nano-Science and Technology Center
Brief Introduction:
Nano-Science and Technology Center, established
in 2003, is a research institution under the direct leadership of the
university. It locates at the southern side of the nameless lake in
the university, adjacent to the national key laboratories and the international
conference building, and covers an area of 5,000 square meters.
Personnel and Equipment
Nano-Science and Technology Center is a pulic platform for performing
nano-teaching, science researching and industrialization. Most of its
personnel are employed by the double-employment system according to
the requirements of interdisciplinary crossing, among whom there are
more than 20 stable faculty and staff, 4 professors, 2 Ph.D tutors,
5 associate professors (including chief engineers) and 6 people who
have gained the doctor¨s degree or the master¨s degree. The Center is
also furnished with many advanced large-size precise equipments that
value over 3,000,000 US dollars.
Research Tasks
According to our university¨s features and advantages, Nano-Science
and Technology Center gives prominence to nano-material researches
on the interdisciplinary crossing and penetrating between geology, material
science, chemistry and analytical testing. Treating nano-mineral materials
as the cut-in point, the Center conducts researches on and puts into
practice such aspects as chemosynthetic methods; experimenting and controlling
of synthesizing conditions; influence of physical and chemical conditions
on synthesized products; components, crystal structure, granularity
and surface characteristics of the synthesized products; surface property
changing, and so on.
Science Research Projects and Achievements
Among the nearly 20 items related with nano-materials, including projects
supported by the national natural science funds, provincial and ministerial
key projects, national key projects to be primarily tackled and projects
on highly advanced and new technology, 5 of them have acquired the national
invention patent and 4 items have passed the achievement appraisal organized
by Hubei Province Science and Technology Department.
Talent Cultivation and Development Layout
Cultivating high-quality research talents on nano-science and technology
is one of the important tasks of Nano-Science and Technology Center.
At present, there are 3 doctor-degree postgraduates, 10 master-degree
postgraduates and over 20 undergraduates participating in nano-material
science research projects.
To meet requirements of discipline development, Nano-Science and Technology
Center will furnish more advanced facilities that can be used to prepare
materials and examine properties, and strive in five years for the state
of the art within China in teaching and scientific research of nano-material¨s,
especially nano-mineral material¨s preparation, examination and application.
