¡¡Network and Education Technology Center
¡¡¡¡Brief Introduction:
¡¡¡¡The predecessor of Network and Education
Technology Center of CUG is CUG Network Center. CUG Network Center was
established in August 1994 with members being Yao Shuzhen, Zhu Xinguo,
Qiang Fangzhu, Lv Guobin, Zhang Feng and Dai Zhuying. From then on,
the intranet construction of CUG was formally started.
¡¡¡¡In October 1994, CUG made a formal application to the National Education
Committee for participating in China Education and Science Research
Net Area Web in Central China.
On November 2, 1995, ¡° CUG Computer Network Center¡± (hereafter shortened
as Network Center) was formally founded with deputy President Yao Shuzhen
as director, Zhu Xinguo as associate director and Qiang Fangzhu as associate
director and chief engineer.
¡¡¡¡On April 27, 1996, the Network Center of CUG realized the interlinkage
with Cernet and Internet through lineless Modem and by means of X.25,
and thus formally became a member of China Education and Science Research
Net. By the end of the year 1996, all departments and schools, the main
secondary units, and some families had been connected with the network.
Up to now, the intranet of CUG has been almost completed.
¡¡¡¡The first-phase project of the intranet was started in October 1997
and passed the inspection in January 1998, while the second phase was
started in June 1998 and was completed in August 1999.
On the foundation of the Network Center and Multi-Media Teaching CAI
Office, Network and Education Technology Center was established in May
2000, with deputy President Wang Yanxin as its director, Yu Xingen as
deputy director presiding over the routine work and Lv Guobin as deputy
director and chief engineer.
¡¡¡¡In June 2002, CUG took advantage of the ¡° Digital CUG¡± construction
and CERNET investing in campus network construction and made the CUG
intranet cover all students¡¯ and faculty and staff¡¯s apartments. Thus
CUG realized the network coverage on campus and realized the kilomega
connection between all buildings in both teaching areas and student
areas, which has not only brought much convenience to all students,
faculty and staff, but also achieved the frontier position of network
information flowing-in and flowing-out volume among higher education
institutions in China.
¡¡¡¡Network and Education Technology Center is divided into several subordinate
departments like Network Operation Management Office, Network Technology
Office, Network Information Administration Office, Central Laboratories
and Training Office.The Center is now equipped with staff of 16, among
whom there is 1 professor, 4 associate professors, 8 instructors or
engineers, 2 doctors and 6 masters and master-degree postgraduates.
¡¡¡¡Network and Education Technology Center faces all doctor-degree and
master-degree postgraduates and undergraduates and sets up many network-oriented
courses like Network Information Technology, Network Safety Technology,
Computer Network, Data-base Technology and so on. The Center has recruited
26 postgraduates who are pursuing the Master¡¯s degree. Their research
directions are database application technology, network safety-maintaining
technology, multi-media application technology and so on.
