      Constitution of Recruitment of           undergraduates in CUG(Wuhan)

  (Applicable to general full-time undergraduate courses, advanced vocational education (including three-year programs), and network education)


Ⅰ.General rules:
1. According to the stipulation of regarding laws such as Law of Education in PRC and Law of Higher Education in PRC, and in accordance with the NO.4[2002] documentation named Regulations on the Recruitment in Schools of Higher Education issued by the State Ministry of Education,the Constitution was framed.This constitution is also set in order to follow out the demands of “carrying out the work of recruitment in line with law”, and to standardize the work of recruitment of the university, thus guaranteeing the smooth process of recruiting students in CUG.


2. The Chinese full name of the university is 中国地质大学(武汉), with the English full name China University of Geosciences(Wuhan). Its code is 10491.The headerquarters of the university locates in No.388 of Lumo Road, Hongshan District in Wuhan City, Hubei Province.Hankou College is the branch of CUG (Wuhan) responsible for the full-time advanced vocational education (three-year program); it lies in the No.15 of Hangkong Road in Qiaokou District, Wuhan City. The branches for network education are scattered in all the teaching centers besides Hankou College

3. The university is a state-run full-time one with dominance in programs of sciences and engineering, and with coordinating development of multi disciplines. It is a university directly under the State Ministry of Education.


4. The university has already entered the“211 Project”; it runs a complete educational system with undergraduate programs, master’s programs, and advanced vocational programs (three-year programs).


5. CUG recruitment of full-time undergraduate programs, advanced vocational programs (three-year programs) and network education is mainly for general examinees of college entrance examinations, students recommended for admission (including students with specialities), preparatory students of minorities, directional students, students specialized in arts, high-level athletes, examinees of arts, and students pursuing a second bachelor’s degree.


Ⅱ.Organizations, institutions, and their responsibilities


6. The university has established a recruitment committee initiated by university leaders, and made up of by leaders in charge of student affairs and academic affairs and some regarding departments and sections (Student Affairs Office, Academic Affairs Office , Discipline Inspection Section, and Financial Affairs & Management Department).It is mainly responsible for the implementation of national recruitment policies, regulations and regarding stipulations. Moreover, the committee is also in charge of the studying and framing of the recruitment policies, recruitment plans, the self-run examination of the university, and some major problems in the process of recruiting students.


7. The recruitment committee runs an office, namely the recruitment office (affiliated to Student Affairs Office). This office is the standing institution especially responsible for the recruiting affairs of the university. Its main functions are to carry out the decisions made by the university recruitment committee, and to organize and bring into effect the recruiting work and self-run examinations of the university.


Ⅲ.Examination for admission


8. The university mainly adopts the national college entrance examination as the way of examination for admission.


9. Students recommended for admission and students with specialities can be accepted after going through stipulated procedures.


10. Students pursuing for a second bachelor’s degree are to sit for examination proposed by the university itself. Those passed can be enrolled.


11. For Network Education College, the university adopts the combination of both national college entrance examination and its self-run examination.


12. As for tests of artistic majors, students with artistic specialities, and high-level athletes, the university adopts the combination of the examinations organized by provincial recruitment departments and its self-run examination.


Ⅳ.Recruiting rules


13. The applicants whose dossiers are asked for by the university account for 120 percent of the total amount of those being enrolled. Students with specialities in arts and high-level athletes are selected on the basis of the results of examination; and then list of the applicants is provided to the respective provincial recruitment departments.


14. As to students whose dossiers are submitted for the university’s consideration after being increased or decreased in their scores according to the stipulation made by provincial recruitment departments, the university can authorize its acknowledgement.


15. Besides some majors specially indicated in the annual recruitment plan, the university sets no limits on the types of foreign languages being tested for majors it offers. However, English is regulated as the first foreign language being taught after students enter the university.


16. Besides some majors specially indicated in the annual recruitment plan, as to the requirements for the examinees’ health condition, the university carries out Criterion of Physical Examination in General Schools of Higher Education and some other regarding supplementary stipulations.


17. There’s no limits set concerning the proportion of male and female students except for some majors specially indicated in the annual recruitment plan.


18. The university welcomes examinees with the first will to apply for the admission. But when the number of applicants with the first will reaches or exceeds the planned number, in principle, applicants with the first will should account for 90 percent of those being enrolled on the basis of the approval of provincial recruitment department. Then, the arrangement of majors for applicants being chosen should be decided according to their scores. In case qualified applicants already fulfil the quota, those fail to be enrolled in majors they applied to can be enrolled in closely related majors if they agree to be adjusted for another one; otherwise their dossiers will be returned. The left 10 percent of applicants being enrolled would be selected from non-first-will applicants with high scores.


19. Within the stipulated national scale of enrollment, the university can obligate a few of the quota mainly for applicants of higher scores.


20. Under equal conditions, applicants with excellent scores in subjects like Chinese, mathematics, foreign Languages etc., and those who have won awards at or beyond provincial level or have specilities in a certain field, can be given priority in recruitment.


21. The stated minimum score of majors for applicants of arts is set according to the scores of students being chosen in line with a proportion of 120 percent; then scores are the main concern for the recruitment of applicants. The score of mathematics are reckoned in the total score.


22. The recruitment of students with artistic specialities, high-level athletes, directional students and preparatory students of minorities is carried out in accordance with the regarding stipulations set by the State Ministry of Education and the recruitment departments of provincial level.


23. As to the children of some units or individuals who have outstanding devotion to the construction and development of the university, they can be given appropriate consideration in recruitment with the discussion in the university recruitment committee and the approval of recruitment departments of provincial level.

Ⅴ.Supplementary articles


25. According to some national stipulations, students must pay for tuition, fees for accommodation and textbooks, incidental expenses such as basic production fees for various certificates and cards, and expenses for quilts and clothing, etc. The specific stardards for charges complies with the criterion been approved by Hubei Provincial Government in the same year.


26. The university will carry out counterchecks for students’ qualification of enrollment in the first three months after they enter the university. Once falsifiers are found, they will be strictly treated with according to regarding stipulations;they’ll even be deprived of the qualification of enrollment if necessary.


27. The university will encourage excellent students with awards; an integrated imbursing system has also been set up to help students with difficulties in their families. There are more than 30 scholarships set up either by the university and some enterprises or some individuals.

Furthremore, the university has also successively established and carried out series of financial assistance including stipends, loans, difficulty subsidies, etc.


28. The university neither entrusts, nor permits the participation or interference of any agencies or individuals in its recruitment of students.


29. The constitution shall go into effect on the day of its approval; any previous stipulations concerning the recruitment of students would be simultaneously abolished. The emendment of the constitution shall be done according to the same procedures.


30. The recruitment committee is responsible for the explanation of the constitution.
