university of Geosciences is very much concerned with those poor students.
With the unremitting efforts of many years, the university has gradually
set up and perfected a complete system of financial aids to these students
by Ħ°prize, loan, subsidy, aid, exemption form tuition or reduction of
tuition and offering odd jobsĦħ. At present, there are more than 30 kinds
of prize and scholarship in CUG, offering RMB Yuan 100,000. Moreover,
the university has also carefully put into effect many national and
local policies to imburse students. It on the one hand tries to maintain
the national financial aid policies for students, assisting about 2059
students with the totaling amount of RMB Yuan 12 million. On the other
hand, it has also assisted a large number of poor students from western
mountainous regions by ways of putting forward aiding project in western
regions of our country and aiding students from Xinjiang Autonomous
Regions, etc.
ĦĦĦĦIn order to well carry out the work of imbersing students, the university
has undertaken careful investigation into the situations of poor students
and set up information data of them. As to students whose families are
especially poor, it provides special subsidies regularly. For example,
the university provides students with thick clothes in winter each year
as a traditional and warmhearted way to help them. It has put into about
RMB Yuan300, 000 for this item alone. Besides, the university has also
taken up the measures of exemption from tuition or reduction of tuition
for some especially poor students so as to assure them to fulfil their
studies smoothly.
ĦĦĦĦThe university has also actively offered many odd jobs for students;
the current odd jobs on campus already total about 780, and those off
campus reaches 250. This has effectively enlarged the scale of financial
aid to students, realizing the transformation both from posts of labor
services to posts of skills,and from the passive acceptance of students
to the selective application for odd jobs.This measure has assisted
poor students as well as trained their practical abilities and broadened
their horizons. Thus, it is universally welcomed by students.
ĦĦĦĦWhile helping poor students materially, CUG attaches great importance
to the moral education and psychological tutorship of them, helping
them mentally to face difficulties and cultivate a positive psychology.
The psychological speeches and consultations opened for students are
especially welcomed by poor students. Moreover, some schools and departments
have also taken some regarding measures to help students. For example,
Faculty of Information Engineering has set up clubs organized by poor
students themselves, providing services and aids especially for the
studies and life of poor students. All these creative methods have given
poor students great mental comfort, making them feel the warmth of collectivities.
ĦĦĦĦThe university has made prominent achievements in helping and imbursing
poor students. Up to now, no students have dropped out of college because
of difficulties in their families. The feedbacks from various channels
have shown that students are rather content with all kinds of imbursing
measures. They have deeply felt the warmth and care of the Party, the
government and the university.
