¡¡¡¡China
University of Geosciences is a national key university with the coordinate
development of multi disciplines and main advantages in geology, resources,
environmental studies and geological engineering technology. It is one
of those universities being authorized by our country to enter ¡°211
Project¡± during the ¡°Ninth Five-year Plan¡±. It is also regarded as the
important base for the higher education of geology and scientific research
in our country.
The adult education of CUG started from 1956. In terms of types of diplomas
conferred, there are both three-year and four-year programs that can
be pursued right after high school, and the four-year program upgraded
from three-year program. Students can engage in their studies in various
ways. For example, they could be released from attending school every
day to take on their own duty; they could also choose to take correspondence
courses or attending night schools. The number of current students now
has reached about 6000. The Adult Education College has also established
some correspondence-course stations and teaching stations. In accordance
with the social demands, the college currently runs about 40 majors
of three-year and four-year programs. The university always attaches
great importance to the teaching of knowledge and training of skills.
It has carried out cooperation with some large-scale factories, enterprises,
and even some other schools and colleges to train some professionals
that are urgently needed by the society.
¡¡¡¡Conforming to the requirements raised in the list of majors for four-year
programs issued by the State Ministry of Education, the university has
re-projected the teaching plans for adult education. Meanwhile, a whole
set of integrated rules has been worked out to realize the scientific
and standardized teaching and management of adult education.
¡¡¡¡For a long time, the Adult Education College has fully clung to the
adventages of CUG in disciplines and resources, determined in reforming
and striving for progress. It has actively adjusted to the requirements
raised by the evolution of both the time and the society, continuously
seeking after better educational mechanism and talent-training mode.
Thus, many units have broadly affirmed the achievements of the college.
In practice of education, the college carries forward the traditionally
good style of study of the university, and the strict way of management,
keeping to boosting development by high-qualified and characteristic
teaching. It pays great attention to the reform and innovation of itself,
gives priority to the training of students¡¯ practical skills. As a result,
the teaching quality has been prominently improved, and splendid achievements
have been made.
¡¡¡¡Confronted with the historical opportunities and the challenges brought
by a ¡°knowledge-boosted economy¡±, in the implementation of the strategy
of national rejuvention through science and technology, Adult Education
College is willing to shoulder the responsibilities and goes in for
more achievements. Its plans for the development of the future ten years
are: being guided under the modern educational principles, try to come
up with a more energetic market-oriented educational system; establish
a college with advanced teaching facilities and excellent atmosphere
for study; construct a united, innovative, standard, and effective management
team; and relying on the team, gradually set up a life-long educational
system with college continuing education at its core.
