Post-doctoral Working Stations

China University of Geosciences(Wuhan) now runs altogether 3 post-doctoral working stations. The stations, one of Geology, one of Geological Resources and Geological Engineering, and the other of Environmental Science and Engineering, have started their national recruitment of post-doctoral researchers since the year 1992. In addition to the researchers recruited according to the plans of enrollment, the stations also accept self-financed post-doctoral researchers. Up to now, about 25 have been incepted, including 17 having finished researches and 8 still under cultivation.

In order to strengthen the management of the stations, the university has especially established some management institutions. It has thus set up a leading and coordinating team, which is made up of by the follows:

Director: assumed by the vice president of the university in charge of the post-doctoral working stations

Vice Directors: assumed by the vice president and section chief in charge of logistic affairs
Members of the team: including the chief leaders of the functional sections (Personnel Department, Scientific Research Department, Financial Affairs & Management Department, Logistic Management Section, Security Services Office, President Office, etc) and of theunits the post-doctoral researchers work in.

No special office is set for the team; the Personnel Department and Personnel Section is responsible for all the daily affairs.

A leading team of post-doctoral researchers is established in the stations. There are two post-doctoral stations in our university, with either of them covering several schools and departments. The leaders in charge of scientific research in each school or department are responsible for the affairs in the stations, while secretary of scientific research for the daily affairs. Either station organizes one team guiding the work and research of the researchers. Usually the leader of the school or department that owns the most researchers acts as head of the team; and leaders in charge of post-doctoral affairs from the schools and departments of the university make up the members. The number of team members is determined by the stations according to different situations. The secretary is at the same time assumed by the secretary from the director¨s unit.

The university attaches great importance to the improvement of the working and living conditions of the post-doctoral researchers. It has arranged over 10 apartments for the researchers to live depite of the rather limited situation of housing for workers and teachers in the university. Every apartment is well furnished. The university also pays much attention to the difficulties of researchers, solving in time the problems such as the work of their spouses and the schooling of their children. Thus, without troubles back at home, the researchers could devote to their studies whole-heartedly and as a result finish their researches successfully.
The post-doctoral researchers take the full advantage of the conditions provided by the university, and carry out the scientific researches according to the prearranged scheldule, resulting in quite plentiful and substantial achievements. Of the 25 researchers recruited by the university, 16 have already fulfilled their tasks and left the stations. They have undertaken the research of altogether 58 projects, including 10 of national level, and 35 of provincial and ministerial levels. 8 awards of various kinds are won, with 1 national award and 9 awards of provincial or ministerial level. Those projects have also resulted in the publication of 193 papers. 18 of them are published internationally, 175 nationally, with one entered EI. Moreover, 12 monographes are published, and 4 patents are applied.

The doctors are welcome to come to the post-doctoral working stations of our university to carry out researches. Applicants could contact either the Personnel Section of the stations, or the regarding schools or departments and cooperating supervisors. Applications can be accepted all year round.
