¡¡¡¡China University of Geosciences
(Wuhan) is located at the foot of Nanwangshan Hill of East Lake,
a famous scenic spot covering an area of 670,000£¨77.33hektare£©
square meters, with a floor area of 518,800 square meters. It
also has a branch located in Hankou. The President is Professor
Zhang Jingao, and its Secretary of Party Committee Professor Hao
Xiang.

¡¡¡¡Now the staff of CUG totals
about 2800, including 8 academicians of Chinese Academy of Science,
316 professors, and 575 associate professors. There are 9 middle-aged
and young experts with outstanding contributions at national level.
There are 20 middle-aged and young experts with outstanding contributions
at provincial and ministerial level. 97 experts enjoy the special
governmental subsidy offered by the State Council and 6 the special
governmental subsidy offered by Hubei Province.

¡¡¡¡A complete educational
system with multi-channels and multi-levels has already been formed
in CUG including programs for bachelor¡¯s, master¡¯s, and doctorial
degrees. There are also programs for oversea-students, distance
education, and continuing education as well. The enrollment of
students of all kinds totals more than 23,600.
¡¡¡¡In terms of campus construction,
CUG is actively involved in socialization reforms of its service
system such as carrying out the construction plan of garden university,
trying to improve the taste of a cultural campus, and giving a
full swing to the educational function of the campus environment.
¡¡¡¡The collection of the CUG
library is extensive. With its 820,000 books and more than 10,000
electronic periodicals on hand for students, it is an ideal resource.
There are over 670,000 Chinese books, 150,000 foreign books, and
1500 periodicals. It also has an easy system to use Database of
the collection, making finding sources simple. An Automatic Management
System and Electronic Reading Rooms have also been built, creating
an up-to-date multi-media environment for students. The library
also has digital resources that amount to 1,000G.
¡¡¡¡There are more than 30,000
specimens on display in the museum of CUG, including more than
2,000 rare samples of fossils, minerals, and national treasures.
The museum is quoted as having various functions:" A national
treasury of geoscientific specimens," " A national education
base for popular sciences," " A national education base
of science and technology for adolescents," and " A
national education base for patriotism."
¡¡¡¡The project for a new geological
museum was approved by the Ministry of Education and financially
sponsored by Shao Yifu Fund. It is expected to have a floor area
of 10,000 square meters. The new museum will also incorporate
two major subject exhibition areas, " The Formation and Evolution
of Earth," and " The Origin and Evolution of Living
Creatures." The new addition of the modified museum will
be undoubtedly a landmark building for CUG.
¡¡¡¡"Digital CUG"
project was initiated in 2000. The campus network (www.cug.edu.cn)
covers all the buildings on campus, facilitating Internet visits
by the faculty, students, and the staff. CAI, electronic teaching
plans, CAD, and multi-function classrooms are becoming gradually
more popular. The digitalization of teaching, research, and management
is also on the rise. CUG is qualified to be one of the experimental
universities of the national modern distance education. Now it
houses nearly 20 distance education centers off campus with more
than 4,000 students.
¡¡¡¡Hankou Campus of CUG
(Wuhan) is located at Hankou, the downtown of Wuhan City. It covers
about 120,000 square meters with a total floor area of more than
90,000 square meters. It is mainly responsible for advanced vocational
education, distance education, and adult education.
