Information
CUG
Employment Instruction Center is established on the basis of an innovative
and effective instruction, management and service system with its own
striking features. As a window and bridge of the university to the outside
world, the center has already set up a multi-functional evaluation information
machine room and a multi-media hall for job-hunting. There are presently
6 full-time employees, 1 current doctoral student, 1 master, and 3 on-the-job
graduate students working in the center. With good environment, sufficient
equipments and advanced facilities, CUG Employment Instruction Center
can fully meet all the demands of publicity and recruitment of employers.
The Employment Office of CUG Employment Instruction Center is made
up of the following divisions: Managing Services Section, Training and
Development Section, Employment Information Section, and Talent Evaluation
Base.The main functions are: counting, submitting and announcing graduate
resources, collecting and announcing demand information for graduates,
managing on-campus application and employment agreements, making out
employment pre-distribution plans, dealing with unsettled problems of
graduates, acting for graduates, carrying out evalutation of talents,
instructing the design of professional careers, tracking and investigating
graduates after their graduation and coordinating with agencies of employment
information, maintaining and constructing of CUG employment website,
providing employment consultation, assisting the teaching of the course
Employment Instructions, and developing employment market for graduates,
etc.
Thanks to the warm concern of senior departments, the great support
by employers of all circles in the society, and the joint efforts of
all the teachers in the Employment Instruction Certer and Office, the
center was honored as National Advanced Unit for the Employment of Graduates
in Schools of Higher learning. Some work done by the center has already
got ahead of some other colleges and universities, and has resulted
in considerable achievements.
1. Regarding the construction of CUG Employment Website as the turning
point, providing more updated employment information
Since 2001, the Employment Office has greatly boosted the pace of
computerization of information. Currently, the office has already developed
an employment website!CUG Employment Website on the basis of a database
system with independent copyright and its own unique characteristics.The
immaterial market with the striking features of CUG itself has thus
been set up. The windows that have already been opened to the outside
are: Policies and Regulations, Inquiry about Graduates, Inquiry about
Employers, Employment Express, Employment Forum, Introduction to Majors,
On-line Instructions, Information Statistics, Downloading Resources,
Self Marketing, etc. With all those windows, the website has possessed
functions such as the on-line inquiry, dynamic issuance and real-time
communication of employment information.As a result, the barriers between
graduates and their prospective employers have been smashed, and the
distance has been eliminated. Furthermore, the recruitment of employers
has become much more effective and the employment rate of graduates
has increased as well. Now the CUG Employment Website has realized its
interconnection with the National Graduates Employment Information Website
run by the Student Department of Ministry of Education.It is one of
the 17 universities apart from Beijing University, Nanjing University
of Technology, Wuhan University, etc. to realize the interconnection;
and only Nanjing University of Technology and CUG has established the
interlinkage of images. Meanwhile, CUG Employment Website has also set
the interlinkage with South Talent Website, China Straight Talent Websit,
Wuyou Employment Website, and so on. Since it started operation from
March of 2001, the CUG Employment Website has embodied nearly 6000 informations
about potential employers and announced over 18000 effective demand
informations.What¨s more, it also established a flat roof for the self-showing
of graduates, realizing the functioning of personal homepage, electronic
resumes, and application mailbox, etc.Its services have thus provided
broader channels and more chances for the employment of graduates in
CUG.
In 2002, the office has developed and constructed two large databases
for the informations of both employers and graduates. Using the Employment
Management Information System, the office has realized information sharing
and no-paper functioning. While attaching great importance to the constructing
of the immaterial employment market in CUG, the office is continuously
strengthening the construction of material employment market with talent
fairs as the main forms.The university organizes large-scale talent
fairs in December every years for successively 8 times. At the same
time, it also organizes irregular fair specially for certain units.
2. Relying on the talent evaluation base, constructing individualized
instruction system
In order to help college students to plan their professional careers
reasonably on the basis of talent evaluation, thus helping them in the
choice of their professions, the university established ^Major Base
of Talent Evaluation Center of Hubei Province ̄ on July 4th, 2002. At
present, the base owns a brand new computer room with 1 special server
for the testing of systems, 30 special testing client terminals, 2 sets
of softwares for the testing of high qualified talents, and 20 unilateralism
testing modules. The university has also invited over 10 full-time and
part-time career instructors providing consultation for current students
especially graduates. Up to now, over 2000 graduates have been tested.
The testing subjects are considerably satisfied with the results, and
the office has thus accumulated abundant experience. It is now carrying
out the researching and developing of testing techniques. In the conference
of Hubei Province for the summary of the employment work in 2002, the
achievements made by the evaluation base of CUG has been regarded as
an advanced example for extending.
3. With Career Development Association as the base, intensifying the
atmosphere for the design of careers for college students.
Career Development Association of China University of Geosciences
was set up on April 16, 2003. This association is affiliated to the
university League Committee,and instructed by College Student Employment
Instruction Center. It regards ^understanding professions, participating
in competitions, planning life, and pursuing excellence ̄ as its principles,
popularizing the ideas of planning professional careers and helping
college students to fully exert their potentials and design their own
future professions. It is the first to carry out such services in Wuhan
City.Its foundation indicates that the employment instruction for and
career planning of students in CUG has stepped into a professional and
standardized track. The association also puts forward its own newspaper
named College Student Professional Careers which has been publicized
for two editions. The newpapers has attacted the attention of students
and helps shaped a positive atmosphere
.
4. Guided by the survey of market, continuously opening employment battlefields
while consolidating the original ones
The supply of talents majoring in geology and engineering falls short
of demand. In order to broaden the channels for the employment of professional
graduates, the university mainly embarks on the expansion of employment
markets in Zhujiang Triangle Region and Yantze River Triangle Region.
On the one hand, it has invited all kinds of enterprises to choose graduates
in our university; on the other hand, it specially dispatched some delegations
to southern cities like Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Fushan, Shunde,
Zhongshan, etc., and eastern cities like Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou,
Kunshan, etc. to visit various enterprises in order to understand their
demand for talents (including famous enterprises like Samsung of South
Korea, Bubugao CO.Ltd., Kelong Group, Meidi Group, Glanz Group, etc.).
From 2001 ti 2003, many enterprises came to CUG in succession to hold
talent fairs, and the number of graduates being recruited by the above
enterprises is gradually increasing.
In response to the call of the nation to develop western regions and
meet the upswing demands of graduates to work in the west, the university
concentrated its efforts on western regions such as Xinjiang, Yunnan
and Sichuan Province, visiting various units of petroleum, transportation,
railway, petrifaction, and so on, widely hearing the suggestions of
those units and some schoolfellows on its discipline construction and
talent cultivation.It has thus deepened its own understanding to the
western regions. In 2003, 217 graduates have signed contracts with units
of western regions.
5. Taking stepping into, understanding and publicizing western regions
as objects, greatly facilitate the project of marching into the west.
In response to the call of the nation to develop western regions and
cultivate a large number of excellent talents urgently needed by the
economic development of western regions, the university has called on
the cooperation of departments like League Committee, Personnel Department
and Academic Affairs Departmetn, lead current students to the western
regions in order to understand their demands for talents and the working
conditions. Furthermore, CUG also tries to popularize and cultivate
the consciousness of working in western regions on campus.
China University of Geosciences will sincerely provide effective and
perfect instructions and services for both graduates and their prospective
employers; meanwhile, it is also cordially waiting for their participation
and support.
